Scott was a deeply kind, fiercely loyal, and generous man who always stopped to help, stood up for others, and made hard days better.
Scott humbly celebrated nearly 40 years of sobriety, a journey that became an important part of his story. He sponsored and supported many men through their own recoveries, offering the quiet wisdom and compassion that came so naturally to him.
Scott married Winifred Gibson-Jones and was the devoted father of Rebekah Esau and, later, friend and father-in-law to Tim Esau. To Winnie, Scott was the calm and the joy at the center of her world.
To Rebekah, he was the person she always wanted to make most proud, and whose love and time were among the greatest gifts of her life. But his proudest title was Pop.
Henry, Scott, Harrison, Penny Lane, Mae, Gus, Jed and Sunny knew their Papa Scott not for the bridges he built or the places he traveled, but for the laughter, attention, stories and love he gave so freely. He was the kind of grandfather who made ordinary moments feel special simply by being there.
He is survived by his wife and one true love, Winnie; daughter Rebekah and son-in-law Tim; dearest sister Wendy Jones; big brother Rob Jones; seven grandchildren; deeply loved nieces Lindsey Schwarzberg, Tanya Herringer, Katie Coullahan, Meleah Jones and Alyssia Lundgren; and nephews James Jones, Bobby Jones, David Jones and Michael Jones.
He was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Dave Jones, and leaves behind countless friends, coworkers, and union brothers and sisters.
Lastly, and most importantly, Scott’s faith in Jesus Christ was most visible in the way he loved others. He welcomed, encouraged, forgave and made room for all, and his heart was an ongoing reflection of God’s goodness.
Our husband, father, brother, uncle and friend will be deeply missed, forever loved and never, ever forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, and if you feel so inclined, Winnie asks that donations be made to Putnam County High School’s Service Leadership class, where students learn the transformative power of compassion, hard work and meaningful service.
