Mrs. Joyce Compton Usry, born and raised in Atlanta, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2022 at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her husband.
She and her husband, Thomas E. Usry, Sr., raised their children in Belvedere Subdivision and in Stone Mountain, GA.
She was a bookkeeper with Dekalb County School System, working at Southwest Dekalb High School and Fernbank Science Center.
She is survived by her two children, Tom (Susan) Usry, Jr, Jennifer (Thomas) Usry, her granddaughter, Addie Grace Usry, her sister, Hilda Bryson, her brother, Jerry Compton, and many nieces and nephews.
She was a loving mother and grandmother, a loving sister, a good friend, and a wonderful cook.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, 1230 Baxter Street, Athens, GA 30606.
A visitation is planned for Friday, December 2, 2022 at Eatonton First United Methodist Church, 103 W Magnolia St., Eatonton, GA 31024, from 11 a.m.to noon, with a service at 12 noon, immediately followed by lunch.
Vining Ivy Hill Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
