Julia Meadows Kern

Julia Meadows Kern, age 92, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022. She was born in Eatonton, GA on November 11, 1929 to the late Arch Meadows and Pearl Meadows. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard L. Kern, Nine brothers, two sisters, son-in-law, Glenn Clapp, and grandson, Michael Gillman.

Julia lived and worked in Eatonton her entire life, retiring from Top-Notch Builders Supply. After retiring, she taught at Berean Christian School and also helped watch her grandchildren. She was active in Gatewood School’s Grandmother’s Club for many years.

Julia was a founding member of Grace Independent Baptist Church. She was a very active member of the church for over 30 years, where she also taught Children’s Church. She was a devout Christian and spread the word wherever she could. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Steve (Elaine) Carnes, Lynn Clapp, Rick (Jeanette) Carnes, Jan (Bill) Dodson, and Ricky Kern (Renea), her grandchildren, Kevin (Mandy) Carnes, Brian Gillman (Jessica), Brittney (Tyler) Stephens, Heather Thrift, Ana Dodson, Rebecca (Kim) McMichael, Crystal (Collen) Kennedy, Jamie (John) Ussery, Brook (Ken) Thompson, Geoff (Kara) Clapp, and Sean (Katie) Better, her sister, Jane Carson, 25 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Tuesday, October 25th at Grace Independent Baptist Church. Visitation began at 10:00 AM, with the service at 11:00 AM, followed by the burial at Eatonton Memorial Park.
