Mr. L. J. “Jay” Hill, Jr., age 89, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025, in the Great Hall of The Eatonton Methodist Church. The family received friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service time. Jay was born on August 15, 1935, in Montezuma, GA, to the late L. J. Hill, Sr., and the late Mozelle Tatum Hill.
He began his career at Atlanta Gas Light/AGL Resources in 1968 and, after holding various positions, retired in 1996 as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales.
An avid golfer, Jay has been a proud member of Reynolds Plantation since 1994. Throughout his golfing life, he achieved five hole-in-ones and, at age 88, shot back-to-back eagles. He also had a deep love for fishing.
Jay was an active member of Eatonton Methodist Church for 35 years. He was also a member of the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge and the Lions Club of Atlanta.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Gloria Hill, whom he met in the first grade, and by his sister, Betty Jean Chambley.
Jay is survived by his son, Robert Hill of Eatonton, GA, and daughter, Sally Hill Rockey of Sarasota, FL.
He was a proud grandfather to Thomas J. Hill (Kara) of Marietta, GA, Emily Hill (Micah Greenwald) of Sacramento, CA, Samantha Rockey of Sarasota, FL, and Shane Rockey of Marietta, GA, and a great-grandfather to Charlotte, Theo, Mason, Ezra, and Jesse.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Eatonton Methodist Church or the Wounded Warrior Project.
