Phyllis Marie King Couch of Eatonton passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, at the age of 80.
Born Aug. 17, 1945, in Durham, North Carolina, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Henry Eldridge King and Zenobia Branch King. She graduated from Southern High School in Durham in 1963 and began working in the Physics Department at Duke University. After marrying and starting a family, she devoted herself to creating a loving home while living in Columbus and Stone Mountain. In 1983, she returned to the workforce and built a fulfilling career in the medical field, serving in several roles at Emory University Hospital before retiring in 1999 from the Orthopedic Oncology Department at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta.
After retirement, Phyllis and her husband, Floyd, enjoyed life at Lake Oconee, where they made countless treasured memories with family and friends.
She was a faithful member of Lakeside Church in Greensboro, where she volunteered in the nursery and served as treasurer of the small group she shared with her husband.
Phyllis found great joy in cooking and welcoming others into her home. She especially cherished spending time with her family, particularly watching her grandchildren play sports. A devoted fan, she never missed an opportunity to cheer on her beloved Duke Blue Devils, Georgia Bulldogs, and Atlanta Braves. Above all, Phyllis will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, unwavering love for her family, and the Southern hospitality she extended to everyone she met.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dennis Floyd Couch Jr.; her son, Geoffrey Couch (Danielle) of Bogart; her brother, Larry King (LaRue) of Farmville, North Carolina; her sister-in-law, Ruth Couch (Edwin) of Burlington, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Carter and Naomi Couch of Athens; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Phyllis' life is being planned and will take place at a later date. Additional details will be shared when they become available.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lakeside Church, 5800 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642.
