Again, I am wandering and wondering. I think it is the largest ingredient in my life, and I really enjoy every day of it.
July and the beginning of August have been busy, busy, busy. The sad time was when Bryant (“Benji”) went back to school on July 10. Benji is my grandson and a student at Emmanuel University in Franklin County. I miss talking to him and relaying family history to him every day.
Next on my list are activities, clubs, and, of course, my flowers. There have been many tours lately at the Uncle Remus Museum. Can you imagine my actions?
Sometimes I put on my promoter’s hat and then wait for attention, and it worked without me having to shout a loud “Shut up!”
And let me tell you, I am never, ever inquisitive.
No, I am just downright nosy. Try it. It really works. I mean, it really, really does.
For instance, I discovered a white canna lily blooming in my neighbor’s yard. I wanted it real, real bad, but the fence was too high for me to climb over. So, I took the next step and politely asked for it with a big Southern smile. And it worked!
My daughter Kim is having a bunch of work done on our 57-plus-year-old house. So you can imagine the nailing and sawing going on. I call it “delightful noise.” I love it. And I get a chance to talk to the workers.
And let me tell you, Pastor Michael Brown and his crew are absolutely great.
Now, school has started, and I really miss the kids playing and talking in the neighborhood, but we have activities galore for them.
We held another Mothers Against Crime annual youth rally in July at beautiful Oconee Springs Park.
And on Aug. 8, we hosted a well-attended back-to-school party with plenty of food, school supplies and a big, free yard sale.
And we are not finished yet. We are working on dates for the annual candlelight vigil at Putnam County Middle School and Gatewood School. We will let you know more in my next article.
But I must run now.
Several big trucks just came down the road.
I have to go see what’s going on. In my next life, I want to become a fast-moving reporter. Watch out, Eatonton Messenger!
I will be applying for a job there.
And don’t forget, everybody, I am celebrating my birthday on Aug. 15. Or I celebrated my birthday on Aug. 7.
Well, I am celebrating.
My thought for today: Truth on the shelf of our lives is merely ornamental, but truth applied to our lives is powerful enough to transform us and influence all others around us.
God bless.
P.S. Don’t forget the Old School (Museum) ice cream social on Aug. 15, my birthday, at The Plaza Arts Center. I will be a storyteller there.
Come and see me.
