I have received numerous calls, text messages, and emails complaining about the smoke from a fire at Precision Outdoors, located on Sammons Industrial Parkway.
The fire started spontaneously in a large pile of chipped wood debris. Fire Chief McClain has stated that the fire cannot be put out and may burn for months.
The Georgia Forestry Commission has cut “fire breaks” to contain the fire. A representative from EPD acknowledged that Precision Outdoors is not in compliance with their rules in having no “fire plan” to contain, prevent or extinguish a fire (Rule 391-34-.06). Meanwhile Precision Outdoors continues to conduct business as usual.
At the Putnam County Commission meeting of April 5, 2024, I made a motion to declare the fire at Precision Outdoors a Public Nuisance under O.C.G.A. 41-2-1 and to seek an injunction until they complied with the EPD rule requiring a “fire plan.”
Neither Commissioner Brown (D-2) nor Chairman Sharp would give me the courtesy of a second so that the issue could be discussed.
Is the smoke from the fire a Public Nuisance?
It doesn’t bother Mr. Brown or Mr. Sharp.
