Over the years, my family and my friends have enjoyed opening Stepback for all to see and get an idea of how people in a rural setting lived in the late 1800s to early 1900s.
For those who have never been to Stepback before, it is a recreated agricultural community from that period.
With the help of friends, Stepback was built as a hobby, but I found it is best when shared with other people. This year’s “Fall at Stepback” event will be held on Oct. 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 176 Dennis Station Rd. Everyone is invited; there is never an admission fee, and refreshments are provided.
There will be working demonstrations of cross-cut sawing at the syrup shed, blacksmith shop, sawmill, gristmill, and water-wheel mill, as well as at the schoolhouse and with all-day, old-time singing in the church. And be sure to cross the branch to chat with the miller’s wife, Mrs. Luanne!
I would also like to give special thanks to The Eatonton Messenger for helping to spread the word about Stepback over the years.
