Dear Editor,
Over the next few years, Putnam County will experience dramatic change involving many tens of millions of dollars in tax incentives, debt issuance, and new expenditures. The recent drama over these issues is just the camel getting its nose into your wallet.
There will also be matters requiring assistance of the GDOT, Regional Commission, and State Legislature. On a daily basis, emergency services, zoning, budgeting, legal issues, and personnel will require attention.
From personal experience, as a former district commissioner, I can tell you there’s a significant learning curve. It seems to me, with the expansion of SR 44, huge outstanding bond issues, and ever-increasing spending, now is not the time to elect a chairman of the county commission – even one with the best intentions – without the requisite experience.
Thankfully, you do have a candidate to vote for with experience and a proven record of tireless service to the community. Yes, Dr. Steve Hersey is my friend, many of you know that, but he is also, without question, the most experienced hardworking public official of our last 25 years.
Please vote Steve Hersey for chairman of the Putnam County Board of Commissioners. You won’t be disappointed.
Sincerely, Alan Foster Putnam County
