Many people don’t know that Eatonton has one of the most impressive butterfly/pollinator conservation habitats in our region.
Butterflies & Blooms in the Briar Patch, at 617 Jefferson Ave., also known informally as The Butterfly Garden, is Eatonton’s own volunteer-created pollinator conservation habitat. It’s a little piece of wild nature put there to support pollinator life and reproduction while offering human visitors good access to watching nature at work.
It was named Habitat of the Year for 2021 by Monarchs Across Georgia and the Environmental Education Alliance of Georgia. It’s also certified by the Xerces Society, an international conservation group protecting invertebrates and their habitats.
Butterflies & Blooms is there to help conserve pollinators and to give visitors, especially parents, and teachers, a place to introduce young people to nature. Now, during the summer months, it’s at its best. There are lots to see for those who take the time to look.
So, if you enjoy seeing nature up close, and especially if you have kids at home or in your neighborhood who might like to explore the natural world, this is a great time to visit.
