I have really been wandering this week. And what a blessing to have so many places to spy on.
Oh gosh, Eatonton, Putnam County, is building up. I mean, adding so many new places. Let me see where I want to start. Okay, I have it.
It starts with a visit from two of my daughters that live in Macon. We parked at the corner of The Eatonton Messenger office, stopped and admired the statue with the newspaper out front. Then we went to Kina’s restaurant and I ordered my grilled chicken sandwich. It was absolutely delicious. I met so many people in there to talk with, which is my favorite thing to do. Then we strolled down to the ice cream shop and oh my, it was so good. I didn’t want to leave.
The next day I went to another favorite place, Tastee Chick. My favorite there is the famous grilled chicken wrap with honey mustard. Try it. You will feel the same.
On Wednesday I went to Putnam General Hospital. I really didn’t go to eat. I was there because I am a member of Putnam General’s Hospital Auxiliary. I have been a member for approximately 40 years. The late Mrs. Tom Thompson Sr. recruited me.
I worked the gift shop there until the magic hour of 12 comes and I mosied down to the dining room. Wow, what a meal. I started off with a big bowl of potlicker and cornbread and had some of the mouthwatering desserts. And if I’m lucky, I get to eat with the pharmacist. At the end of the day, I stop by Piggly Wiggly and get hugs from all the employees, and then mosey on home because I must feed Sweetie, my dog. She is always so happy to see me!
I hope somewhere along my travels, I have made someone smile every day.
As I was wandering and being nosy, I also came up with an idea. You know the building the City Hall has moved from? I think that would make a perfect place for an African American museum, don’t you? It is perfectly located. Think about it, won’t you?
Oh, I forgot to mention that work on our house continues. It is looking great. I can’t wait to stop looking for clothes, et cetera, in plastic containers. I repeat, Pastor Michael Brown and his crew are doing a great job, and his daughter Lisa is on key at all times.
I must leave you with a recipe for a good American. First use half a tablespoon of honesty, half a tablespoon of responsibility, half a tablespoon of courage, half a tablespoon of caring, half a tablespoon of loyalty, half a tablespoon of respect for the rights of others, and half a tablespoon of fairness.
Mix it together and then spread it around.
