Gatewood’s soccer teams had several players earn postseason recognition for their performances on the pitch in 2025.
Four Lady Gators were named to the GIAA All-Region 4-AA team: senior Sarah Kate Mansfield, junior Kimberly Mendez, sophomore Lily Piper, and freshman Kathy Mendez.
Gatewood girls head coach Tracy Harper was happy for the players who made the All-Region list.
“I am so proud,” Harper said. “All four of these ladies were key playmakers for our team throughout the season and are truly deserving of being named to the All-Region team. Kathy was second in the region with goals scored, and Kimberly and Lily were both in the top 10. Offensively, we couldn’t have done it without them. Sarah was also our rock on defense and even had a couple of goals herself.”
Kathy Mendez led the Lady Gators’ offense this year, scoring a team-high 19 goals last season. Kimberly Mendez was second in scoring with 12 goals, while Piper added 11. Mansfield scored three as a senior.
Two of Gatewood’s girls — Kathy Mendez and Mansfield — were named to the Class AA All-State team, and Mansfield also was selected to play in the GIAA All-Star soccer game.
The Gatewood girls went 8-9 this past season and lost 3-2 to region rival Westminster Christian in the Elite Eight.
Harper believes it was a successful season for Gatewood and knows her team will come back strong in 2026. The Lady Gators lost Mansfield and fellow senior Sophie Eisele to graduation, but will return a strong core.
Piper, Kathy Mendez, Kimberly Mendez, Bela Smith, and Natalie Sills, among others, were a major part of the team’s success last season, and their coach said she expects they will continue to contribute next year.
Meanwhile, the Gatewood boys had just one player — senior JT Gregory — selected to play in the GIAA All-Star soccer game. Gregory was a pivotal player for the Gators, who unfortunately didn’t win a game during the 2025 season.
The team also had another senior, Adam Harvey, earn All-Region honors.
Gatewood boys head coach Cindy Gregory, mother of JT Gregory, said she was proud of her son and Harvey.
“Although our season didn’t go the way we wanted it to, I am so proud of the boys and how they continued to play hard and show up,” Harvey said.“I am so proud of the entire team.” The Gators lost Harvey, Gregory, Charlie Randolph, Gage Rainey, and John Van de Planque to graduation in May. The team hopes for a better result next season with a young core returning.
