Last Wednesday, Gatewood’s track & field teams finished off their regular season at home, where they hosted Briarwood, Windsor, Westfield, Brentwood and Twiggs.
The Gators’ boys won the meet with a score of 164 while the Gators’ girls team placed third with a score of 117 total points.
“It was nice to come back from spring break and get back to work,” Gatewood head coach Jeff Ratliff said. “We had a good win on Wednesday, but more importantly, we were able to find some of those final pieces to our region team.”
In boys’ shot put, Blake Daniel came in fifth with a throw of 34-10.5 and in boys’ discus Evan Bennett threw a 131-8 to place first, while Blake Daniel came in third with a throw of 103-4.
In the boys’ high jump, Lake Ferman cleared 5-4 to come in fourth place. Blake Callaway jumped 40-4 to win the boys’ triple jump, with teammate Landon Moreno jumping 39-8 to come in second. In the boys’ pole vault, Dakota Davis took first with a 10-0 jump and Jayden Daniel was second at the same height.
Blake Callaway ran 17.04 to come in first in boys’ 110-meter hurdles, while in 300-meter hurdles, Callaway came in second with a time of 43.94 and Landon Moreno was third.
Evan Bennett ran 10.95 to come in first for the boys’ 100-meter dash. In the boy’s 200-meter, Evan Bennett came in second place with a time of 23.13 and Jackson Lundy ran 54.94 to come in second place in the boy’s 400-meter dash, with Bodie Corry sixth.
In boys’ 800-meter, Cale Ferguson came in third and Luke McNeill was fourth, and in the boys’ 1600-meter run, Cale Ferguson ran 5:46 to come in second place.
On the boys’ 4x100 meter relay team, Gatewood came in first place and repeated the finish in the boy’s 4x400 meter relay race. In the boys’ 4x800 meter relay, Gatewood came in first place again with a time of 9:40 and their second team came in fourth place.
In girls’ shot put, Rose Tamasi was third with a throw of 28-3.25 and in girls’ discus, Ellie McMillan placed fourth for the Gators. In girls’ high jump Lanie Nistler came in third with a jump of 4-7 and in the girls’ triple jump, Madison Hevesy jumped 34-2 to finish first. In the girls’ pole vault, Lanie Moss jumped 7-0 to come in third place.
In the girls’ 100-meter hurdles, Anna Williamson came in third place with a time of 17.37, while Madison Hevesy came in first for girls’ 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.41 seconds.
In the girls’ 100-meter dash, Natalie Sills came in third place with a time of 13.12, the girl’s 200-meter dash saw Madison Hevesy come in sixth, and in the girl’s 400-meter dash, Payton Moss was first with a time of 62.59. The girls’ 1600-meter run had Ansleigh Hillin in third place.
Gatewood’s team came in third in the girls’ 4x100 meter relay final, while the Gatewood first team came in second in the girl’s 4x400 meter relay.
The Gators boys’ and girls’ track & field teams continued their seasons Wednesday, April 19 (after press time) as they hosted all competing schools for the GIAA Region 4AA title.
