The official brackets for the Georgia High School Association state soccer tournaments have been released and the Putnam County boy’s side, the No. 1 seed from Region 4-AA, has drawn Vidalia for round one.
The Vidalia Indians, the No. 4 seed from Region 2-AA, finished the season with 10 wins and eight losses overall (5-4 in their region). The side enters the state tournament on a hot streak, having won four in a row.
According to MaxPreps, the Indians have scored 51 goals while allowing 41, a statistic that pales in comparison to Putnam County’s 98 goals scored against only six allowed.
If the War Eagles win, they will face the winner of the Riverside-Military/ Pace Academy match. The second round match is scheduled for April 21.
The Putnam County girls, the No. 2 seed from Region 4-AA, have drawn Bacon County. The Raiders are the No. 3 seed from Region 2-AA and finished the season with a record of 8-8, scoring 46 goals on the season while giving up 40.
If the Putnam County side wins, they will face the winner of the Lovett/ Banks County match. That game would be played April 19.
Powerhouse Lovett has scored 119 goals against 16 allowed and has a record of 16-3.
The defending champions come into the post season seeking their fifth title, having won championships in 2001, 2005, 2016 and 2021.
The AA title matches will be played May 4 at McEachern High Mercer University: Girls at 5 p.m. and boys at 7:30 p.m.
