Putnam County High School’s varsity volleyball squad dropped its season-opening matches on Aug. 8, with a pair of non-region losses at home to Lake Oconee Academy and Jones County.
The Lady Titans defeated the Lady Eagles 25-10 and 25-16 to open up the night. That was followed by a much more competitive 25-22 first-set loss later that night to Jones County and a 25-8 result again in favor of the Greyhounds in the second.
The Lady Eagles then traveled to Jones County two days later, leaving Gray with a third straight loss. The Lady Greyhounds got the best of them, 2-0.
The Lady Eagles graduated a few key players last season but appeared ready to take the court in the season opener; however, they struggled a little on the service line and will try to correct those faults before getting back on the court Tuesday, Aug. 15 (after press time), hosting region opponent Butler and non-region Baldwin County.
The Lady Eagles will remain at home for their next two series dates, Aug. 17 against Washington and Greene counties, and Aug. 22 versus Davidson Fine Arts from Augusta and Eastside of Covington.
