The Gatewood girls basketball team had what head coach Jordan Walters called “their best game together as a team in years” versus Trinity Christian in a 69-61 victory last Saturday. It was a rebound win after the Lady Gators suffered a low-scoring 30-22 loss at home the night before to Thomas Jefferson.
Regardless, the Lady Gators rebounded with a solid performance at Trinity Christian.
Gatewood’s leading scorers were senior London Darden and freshman Maddie Capps with 18 points each, followed by freshman Lauren Paxon with 13 points.
“We had our freshmen step up big and our upperclassmen led the team,” Walters said. “They set the tone and stayed poised and the freshmen followed their lead.”
The Lady Gators (5-3) host their final game before Christmas break on Dec. 20 against Briarwood (8-1), starting at 6 p.m. at the Gatewood gym.
