PCHS set to host region tennis playoffs

The Putnam County High School girls’ tennis team visited Augusta on March 16, where they defeated Westside 5-0. Each of the Putnam girls ultimately dominated their competition, but Giana Hamlin played a particularly combative match.

The Westside girl she played was very consistent, forcing Hamlin’s first set into a tiebreaker, which she ultimately won 8-6 before putting together a 6-2 win in the second set. Hamlin displayed incredible patience in earning the win, perhaps recalling her first loss of the season a week earlier.

Freshman Hannah Erickson is becoming very competitive at practice and it has not gone unnoticed. She is currently undefeated on the season and her competitive practice play has helped the team to get better on match days.

Doubles teammates Abigail Hildreth and Caroline Thomas also got their first win as a duo in Augusta, while doubles team Joelle Lukens and Cadence Fox won their second match in a row. The chemistry between doubles partners continues to grow and greatly contributed to the team’s 7-0 start to the season.

Unfortunately, though, the Putnam girls suffered their first loss on March 22, falling 3-2 at Thomson. They got back in the win column the very next day, though, beating Washington County 5-0, in Sandersville.

Despite taking their first loss of the season, Putnam’s thriving track record throughout the regular season means they will be at home when region playoffs begin.
