Throughout the season Putnam County’s wrestling War Eagles have been able to enjoy several important milestones, including three wrestlers – Jonquail Coates, Tristan Williams, and Mark Winslette – each surpassing 100 individual wins.
Another first for the program came at the recent region's competition, where Putnam County’s boys brought home back-to-back 4-AA dual-area championships.
Also, for the first time in PCHS program history, not only did the wrestling team make it to state duals, it also reached the Elite Eight.
With the boys’ dual-meet season coming to a close, their focus will shift to the individual portion of the season and the traditional area tournament scheduled for Feb. 3 at Westside High School in Augusta, followed by final matches of the season Feb. 10 at home in Putnam County.
Switching to the Lady Eagles’ side of the mat, the team has grappled with the best and remained consistent. The girls’ squad finished runner-up at region duals and will be competing in its final dual meet of the year Jan. 26-27, the state championships at the University of West Georgia.
After state duals, the Lady Eagles also will have a quick change of focus to the individual portion of the season and the 4-AA traditional area tournament at PCHS on Feb. 2, followed by sectionals on Feb. 9 (location yet to be determined) and the finals in Macon the next week.
