Trojans trounce Bucs in 10-0 home win

John Milledge Academy resumed play after spring break with its only game of the week Apr. 10, and scored a non-conference 10-0 win at home over Briarwood Academy.

Cooper Wilburn started on the mound for the Trojans and threw a three-up, three-down first inning before the Trojans grabbed their bats.

JMA quickly jumped out to a lead on a Banks Eady single that scored Bud Veal, who led off the inning with a walk.

In the second inning, Wilburn hit a ground ball single to left field before a Cayden Avant single to right field scored courtesy runner Bryce McDonell to reach a 2-0 JMA lead. Blake Bellflower then grounded out to score Avant before the inning ended on a Briggs Eady strikeout.

John Milledge held Briarwood to no hits in the third and fourth innings before the Trojans got back on the board in the fourth on a Buccaneers’ balk to score JMA’s Tyler Greene, followed by a Brady Rollins double that sent Veal and Bellflower home for a 6-0 JMA lead.

Three straight doubles then scored four more Trojan runs.

Briggs Eady scored his brother, Banks, as well as Remington Weaver, followed by Jackson Thomas sending Briggs Eady home and Wilburn hitting a double to score Thomas and establish a 10-0 lead before the Trojans gave up the batter’s box.

The Trojans held Briarwood to just one hit and no runs in the fifth and what turned out to be the final inning, as the game was called due to the 10-run lead rule.

Wilburn earned the win on the mound with five innings pitched while allowing one hit, no runs, and striking out four Bucs batters.

JMA (10-5, 3-3) looked to get above .500 in region play this past Tuesday (after press time) when they hosted Stratford Academy (6-15, 0-6).

The Trojans will host non-region opponent Brentwood this Thursday night before going to Macon on Friday to play their final region game against Stratford Academy. Four non-region games during the final week of April will finish out the Trojans’ regular season.
