To start off Labor Day week, Putnam County High School’s varsity volleyball team hosted Baldwin County High School on Sept. 6, along with Davidson Fine Arts High School.
Both opponents presented fierce battles against the Lady Eagles, with Putnam first facing the Davidson girls from Augusta. The opening match was discouraging for the Lady Eagles, though, as they lost two straight games, 25-9 and 25-13 in conference play.
Despite the initial setback, the PCHS team played hard in their next game against non-conference Baldwin High from Milledgeville. The Lady Eagles fell again, 25-11 in the opener, but in the second game, they turned things around, gaining the upper hand with a close 25-22 final score.
The win empowered the Putnam girls, as victory always brings a smile to their faces. In the tie-breaking third game, however, Baldwin was not going down again and the Lady Eagles dropped a 15-8 decision.
Regardless, Putnam’s Lady Eagles always find a way to smile and encourage each other, building their connections together.
Coaches Sarah Mangan and Kristin Grebel were unable to attend the matches, but head coach Francisco Aguirre Arancibia was ably assisted by Rakeena Griffin, who took time out from building the ever-improving middle school volleyball program.
