The 2022 season came to an end on Oct. 19, for Putnam County High School’s girls’ volleyball team, but despite dropping three straight sets in the opening round of GHSA Class 2A playoffs to Savannah Arts Academy, it remained a groundbreaking campaign for the Lady Eagles.
“We had a fantastic year and were honored to make history, going to the (state) playoffs for the first time,” head coach Francisco Aguirre Arancibia pointed out.
The Savannah team was tough, winning 25-3, 25-4 and 25-6 to advance past Putnam. Regardless, the PCHS girls enjoyed some earlier success and remained upbeat, positive and supportive of each other throughout their season.
Special accolades also came to three Putnam seniors, with Angelica Alexander, Tytianna Little and Leslye Areola each earning a spot on the All-Area 4AA 1st team. These seniors can be proud of their accomplishments with the Lady Eagles as they begin the next chapter of their lives.
“While they fell short on the overall board, they will forever be winners in our hearts!” Aguirre declared in an online post once the team closed out its season.
Savannah Arts eventually reached the tournament semi-finals, where they fell three sets to one to the Mount Paran Christian Eagles, who then went on to secure the state championship with three straight wins over Landmark Christian.
