Region Champs: Gators capture regular season league title

The Gatewood Gators basketball team wrapped up the 2022-23 regular season on a high note last week. With wins over Westminster Christian (66-45) and Brentwood Academy (70-64), Gatewood secured the GIAA Region 2-AA regular season title for a second-consecutive year under Don Keiser.

War Eagles begin region tourney as No. 2 seed

Putnam County ended its regular season on a high note last week with two region wins. The No. 6-ranked War Eagles (20-5, 11-3 Region 4-AAA) closed with a pair of tune-up games against Glenn Hills (77-41) and Josey (95-43) before the start of the Region 4-AA tournament.

War Eagles set to begin baseball season

In 2023, the Putnam County War Eagles baseball team has its sight set on big opportunities ahead. With a good mix of young and veteran players in its lineup, Putnam is hungry for a strong rebound season.

War Eagles split games with Hawks, Bulldogs

Putnam County boys’ basketball split games with Washington County and Thomson last week. The No. 6 War Eagles defeated the Golden Hawks 75-72 at home in a thriller on Tuesday’s Senior Night before falling to No. 9 Thomson 78-59 in a top-10 matchup on Saturday.

Gators lose to Lions, conquer Cougars

Gatewood boys basketball dropped its first region game 69-66 last Tuesday at Westminster Christian Academy in Watkinsville but rebounded nicely at home on Friday with a 54-47 victory over Piedmont Academy.

Putnam County High School’s Lady War Eagles took a pair of region losses last week, going down 51-49 at home on Jan. 31, to Washington County, then falling 67-39 on the road on Feb. 4, at Thomson.
