BASKETBALL: Lady War Eagles show mixed results

The Putnam County High School 2022-23 girls’ basketball season opened Dec. 2, with a 69-40 loss at home to local rival Greene County. The Lady Eagles are playing under new head coach Derrik Arrington since the previous coach, Jerusha Hudson, retired after last season.

BASKETBALL: Gators are rolling into mid-point of season

Gatewood boys’ basketball split games with John Hancock Academy (JHA) and GMC Prep last week, then got back on the winning track Monday night against Young Christian Academy (YAC).

BASKETBALL: War Eagles drop first game of season

After a 5-0 start, No. 6 Putnam County lost its first varsity basketball game of the year on the road against rival Morgan County. The Bulldogs dramatically defeated the War Eagles 70-69 on Saturday. According to Putnam County head coach LaPatrick Marshall, there’s actually some upside to the loss.

BASKETBALL: Lady Gators off to hot start

The Gatewood girls’ basketball team is off to an excellent start under head coach Jordan Camp. The Lady Gators currently have an 8-1 record under Camp in her fourth year at the helm. “The season is going well,” Camp said.

2022 SEC CHAMPIONS: Bennett tames Tigers in SEC title game

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett delivered when it mattered most against LSU. The super senior tossed a season-high four passing TDs in a 50-30 win over the Tigers that also secured the 2022 SEC Championship and maintained the Bulldogs’ undefeated status for the year.

WRESTLING: War Eagles start season strong

The Putnam County High School wrestling team traveled on Nov. 29, to face former region foe, Lamar County, in Barnesville. The Trojans of Lamar are five-time region champions and defeated Putnam 72-9 last year in the region finals.
