Six War Eagles earn All-Region honors

The Putnam County baseball team wrapped up its first season with new head coach Stephen Phillips in April.The War Eagles went 11-20 overall in Phillips’ first year, but made a trip to the state playoffs, where they lost to rival Washington County in the first round.

Lady War Eagles learning in summer workouts

The Putnam County girls basketball team had a successful 2024-25 campaign.The Lady War Eagles concluded last season with an overall record of 16-10, a second-place finish in Region 4 Class A Division I, and advanced to the Sweet 16 round of the state playoffs for the first time in five years.

Four Gators earn All-State honors

After capturing their third consecutive state championship title, the Gatewood Gators baseball team had four players named to the GIAA Class AA All-State team, including Hunter Johnson, Lawson Moore, Jayden Moss, and Walker Roberts.

Monticello angler wins Lake Sinclair bass tourney

Last Saturday, Monticello’s Byron Kenney caught a five-bass limit weighing 17 pounds, 10 ounces, to win the Phoenix Bass Fishing League (BFL) presented by T-H Marine on Lake Sinclair presented by Suzuki Marine. The tournament was the fourth event of the season for the BFL Bulldog Division.

According to a report released by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week, the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) is revising its bylaws concerning transfers.

War Eagles participate in OL/DL camp at Rock Eagle

Over the weekend, the Putnam County football team had six players attend the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s Battle of the Rock competition, which featured offensive and defensive linemen from across the state.

War Eagles still looking to fill spots for golf tourney

The Putnam County football team is still seeking to fill a few spots for its golf tournament at Harbor Club on Saturday.The War Eagles hope to have 10 to 12 golfers from the area compete in their biggest fundraiser of the year.
