We are one step closer to the upcoming Super Bowl when Georgia will extend its record to 24 straight seasons with a former player in the NFL’s championship game. Georgia is the only school to boast such an impressive streak.

Lady Gators take two from Trinity Christian

Gatewood’s Lady Gators recently played a home-and-away series against Trinity Christian. They won 47-40 at home in Eatonton on Jan. 24 and then narrowly defeated the Lady Crusaders 36-35 on Jan. 27 in Dublin.

Lundy hired as Putnam middle school baseball coach

Putnam County Middle School recently named Chase Lundy its new head baseball coach.Lundy, who teaches at the middle school, has been an assistant coach there for the last three years and is now the head coach. He was previously an assistant at Putnam County High School.

Lady War Eagles wrestling see success on the mat

The Putnam County girls wrestling team has had a successful 2024-25 season, and it’s not over yet.The Lady War Eagles recently competed in the area team duals tournament, placing third overall.Although that wasn’t good enough to advance to the state competition, coach River Vaughn was proud.

Greenforest ruins War Eagles’ perfect record

Greenforest shot nearly 50 percent and dominated the interior, out-rebounding Putnam County by 24 boards to end the War Eagles’ perfect 18-0 streak with a 66-53 win last Friday.

Mixed results for Gators on road

Gatewood (14-4, 3-2) recently played three consecutive region away games, resulting in a loss sandwiched between two wins.The run started Jan. 14 in Dublin, where the Gators beat Trinity Christian 68-60 for the Crusaders’ 15th-straight loss since the 2024-25 season began.

Lady War Eagles drop two straight

Last week, Putnam County girls basketball (11-6, 2-0) had a rough time, losing two straight games against ranked teams. The Lady War Eagles dropped games to No. 7 Southwest Atlanta Christian (SAC) and No. 6 Greenforest, both ranked in Class 3A-1A Private.

Putnam girls ‘connected’ as region play begins

The Putnam County Lady War Eagles are playing some of their best basketball as region play began last week. They entered this week with an 11-4 overall record and were ranked No. 7 in Class A Division I by Kyle Sandy.

Consistency proves elusive for Gators

The Gatewood Gators played three times last week, winning 74-64 at home on Tuesday over Windsor Academy, dropping an 81-67 decision at Brentwood on Thursday, and getting back on the right track with an 84-66 decision over Augusta Prep Day (APD) on Saturday afternoon in Eatonton.
