Last weekend was something of an “old home week” for me as I returned to our nation’s 40th state for the first time in four years, making me realize just how much I have missed pheasant hunting and the warm and generous hospitality of the people.

Five Star Mega Tournament draws 100-plus anglers

Lake Country Fishing and Georgia Bass Trail teamed up with General Manager Roosevelt Adams of Five Star Automotive Group in Milledgeville on Oct. 12 for the inaugural Five Star Mega Bass Fishing Tournament at Lake Sinclair.

Georgia prepares for Florida, DJ Lagway

The annual Georgia- Florida rivalry will be renewed in Jacksonville at Everbank Stadium this Saturday. The No. 2 Bulldogs (6-1, 4-1 SEC) will face the Gators (4-3, 2-2), led by talented freshman quarterback DJ Lagway after starter Graham Mertz suffered a season-ending injury a few weeks ago.

Eatonton driver wins major drag racing event

Eatonton’s own C.G. Knight said he predicted his Oct. 13 win at No Mercy 15 on the eighth mile at South Georgia Motorsports Park near Valdosta.No Mercy and its springtime Lights Out counterpart routinely draw hundreds of entries yearly.

Trojans top Putnam as regular season nears end

A solid second-quarter effort by Lamar County helped it defeat Putnam County 24-3 this past week.The War Eagles (4-5, 2-2 Class A Division I - Region 4) held a 3-0 advantage heading into the second period before the Trojans (7-1, 4-0) scored 17 unanswered points, a lead they never gave up.

Gators fall 35-13 to visiting Spartans

Last Friday night, the Gatewood Gators dropped their non-region match 35-13 to the visiting Edmund Burke Academy Spartans at Sammons Field in Eatonton. It marked the Gators' second straight loss, leaving them with a 3-4 overall record and 0-1 in region play.“We’ve got to be better.
