‘Inconsistent’ War Eagles get two region wins

Putnam County bounced back last week with a pair of road region victories over Josey and Laney. The War Eagles topped Josey last Tuesday 67-54 before defeating Laney 81-75 on Friday.

Gators defeat Trinity in double OT

On the night Gatewood sophomore Matt Allen surpassed the 1,000-point mark, it took double overtime for the Gators to get past Trinity Christian with a 75-70 win that boosted them to a 14-2 overall record and ranked first overall in GISA Class AA Region 2 standings.

Allen scores 1,000th point for Gators in win at home

It came eight minutes and 59 seconds into the third quarter Saturday night as the hometown Gatewood Gators were locked in a tight, back-and-forth battle with the visiting Trinity Christian Crusaders out of Dublin.

Putnam's Kamyra Aikens reaches unique milestone

It’s uncommon for a high school basketball player to score 1,000 points in their career, but Putnam County girls basketball senior Kamyra Aikens reached that lofty milestone last week against Laney. Aikens sunk a free throw to reach 1,000 career points in a 70-58 region win over the Lady Wildcats.

Georgia DNR promotes adaptive hunting

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) hosted its third adaptive hunt since 2021 earlier this month on private property in Newton County. Five adaptive hunters and their hunting buddies were teamed up with a guide for the agency’s two-day Hunt and Learn experience.

PCHS wrestlers pinning down milestones

Throughout the season Putnam County’s wrestling War Eagles have been able to enjoy several important milestones, including three wrestlers – Jonquail Coates, Tristan Williams, and Mark Winslette – each surpassing 100 individual wins.

College football coaches visit Putnam County

Several college football coaches recently stopped by Putnam County High School to check on its players. Coaches from in-state institutions Kennesaw State, Georgia Tech, Georgia State, and Albany State, as well as Liberty University in Virginia, made trips to Eatonton last week.

Outdoors: Boat shows and other indoor activities

I had several interesting experiences this past weekend. First was the Atlanta Boat Show, put on by Discover Boating. Now, I have been to many boat shows in the past, including the Atlanta show; however, this was my first time working at a boat show.
