5K benefit run is a ‘full circle moment’

Greeting each other with hugs and bundled in thick fleece hoodies, coats, and knit hats to keep warm as they worked in the cold, a small crowd began gathering in Renaissance Park at Central State Hospital early Saturday morning.

Lady War Eagles drop two straight decisions

The Putnam County girls’ basketball team enters the final week of the regular season on a two-game losing streak. The Lady War Eagles fell 52-43 to Washington County and 57-45 to Class AA’s No. 3-ranked Thomson last week.

Gators bank two region wins

The Gatewood Gators opened region play last week with consecutive victories over visiting Piedmont Academy on Tuesday and at Brentwood on Friday night. The results boosted Gatewood to 16-2 overall, putting it first in the GIAA Region 2-AA standings.

War Eagles get ‘wake-up call’ against Butler, Westside

Putnam County head coach LaPatrick Marshall called last week’s two losses a “wake-up call” for his team. Butler and Westside-Augusta completed their respective sweeps of the War Eagles last week in dominating fashion. The Bulldogs won by a 31-point margin, while the Patriots got a 36-point win.

Short-handed Gators prepare for state wrestling finals

Gatewood’s wrestling team has had a good run of success this season, which will soon come to an end. The Gators are preparing for the state traditional tournament coming up this weekend at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville. They’ll be a little shorthanded on Saturday, though.

Gatewood girls struggle to get back on track

In what has been an up-and-down season so far, Gatewood’s Lady Gators (9-11, 0-2) have struggled lately, winning just once in the last six games and currently trying to break a three-game losing streak.

Lady War Eagles split with Butler, Westside

Putnam County’s girls’ basketball team split games with No. 7 Butler and Westside-Augusta last week. The Lady War Eagles (16-5, 6-4 Region 4-AA) fell to Butler 52-44 on Jan. 23 before routing Westside 74-14 two days later. Putnam sat fourth in Region 4-AA standings entering this week.
