Outdoors: Jonquils bring back memories

Every year about this time my favorite flower blooms. I was always taught that the patches of these beautiful flowers always marked the place of an old home. So, every time I see them, I think of people who came before us.

Gators season ends at state quarterfinals

“Just nothing went our way.” That was the simple takeaway of Gatewood head coach Don Keiser after a dominant 2023-24 season ended Saturday afternoon for his region championship-winning team.

PCHS basketball players earn postseason honors

Following the 2023-24 season, Putnam County High School’s (PCHS) basketball teams had several players earn All-Region honors. Neither team made the Class AA state playoffs, but the region’s coaches voted on the postseason awards last week.

War Eagles’ season ends in region tournament

Putnam County basketball’s season came to a close on Feb. 13 with a loss to Laney in the region tournament. The Wildcats avenged two losses earlier in the year to Putnam by knocking off the War Eagles 75-70 in the first round.

Gators get in done, win region

The Gatewood Gators took care of business last Friday night in Eatonton, beating the visiting Brentwood War Eagles 89-59 to secure the GIAA Region 2-AA regular season championship.

War Eagles baseball opens season with losses

The Putnam County baseball team began its 2024 season last week and struggled. The War Eagles started the year 0-3 after losses to Athens Academy, Lake Oconee Academy, and Jackson. The War Eagles opened up the year at Class AA’s Athens Academy (ACAD), leaving with a 6-0 loss.
