Milledgeville native Javon Bullard decides his future is with the NFL

Georgia defensive back Javon Bullard recently announced he is forgoing his senior season as a Bulldog and will enter the 2024 NFL Draft. Bullard, a Milledgeville native, capped off his career as a Bulldog on Dec. 30 in Georgia’s dominant 63-3 win over the Florida State Seminoles in the Orange Bowl.

Putnam County finishes second at Eagles Classic

Putnam County basketball competed in the Eagles Classic at Northside High School in Warner Robins last week, finishing runner-up to Veterans High School with a 97-88 loss in the championship game.

Lady War Eagles beat Social Circle, ready for return to region play

Putnam County got a 56-47 non-region win over Social Circle on Dec. 30. The Lady War Eagles improved to 11-2 as they now prepare for region play. Kamyra Aikens (15 points), Jaikarccie Smith (12 points), and Journey Waller (12 points) led Putnam County in scoring.

Mixed results for Gators, Lady Gators

Gatewood basketball played its final game of 2023 at home on Dec. 20, with both the girls’ and boys’ teams tipping off against Briarwood Academy. Up first, the Lady Gators (5-4) fell 57-49 after leading most of the game.

Dawgs make statement with rout of FSU

Georgia made a huge statement in its 63-3 rout of Florida State this past Saturday in the Orange Bowl. Both teams were left out of the College Football Playoff, but the No. 6 Bulldogs showed why they should have made it after losing Dec. 2 to No. 4 Alabama in the SEC Championship game.

Lady War Eagles head into holidays on positive note

Putnam County girls’ basketball is off to one of the best starts in recent memory. The Lady War Eagles are 10-2 overall and riding a four-game winning streak heading into the final week of the year. Butler snapped Putnam County’s five-game winning streak on Dec. 15 with a decisive 57-40 win.

War Eagles learn tough lesson in loss to Bulldogs

Putnam County boys’ basketball learned a critical lesson last Friday in a road loss to Hancock Central. The War Eagles missed a pair of free throws and committed a lane violation late in the game, setting up the rival Bulldogs to make a desperate attempt from half-court to win the contest, 66-64.
