Diamond Gators take Region 4-AA title

The Gatewood Gators officially became Region 2-AA baseball champs last week when Piedmont defeated Westminster Christian to end region play for the season. The Gators went 1-2 last week, losing to non-region opponents Class AAAA Bethlehem Christian Academy and Class AAA Stratford Academy.

Gatewood boys run to region title; girls runner-up

The Gatewood Gators hosted the Region 4 AA track-and-field championships last Wednesday, and the boys brought home the season title while the girls were named runners-up to Brentwood following a valiant effort.

PCHS now offering boys volleyball

As part of promoting recreational activities at Putnam County High School (PCHS) and encouraging physical activities that benefit the mental and physical health of students, the boys volleyball club was created early this year for male students with an interest and passion for the sport.

War Eagles reach Elite 8 with rout of Rutland

Putnam County High School (PCHS) boys’ soccer (15-0-2) continued its winning streak on April 14, with a 4-2 shootout victory at home against Toombs County that set up the War Eagles to face the Rutland Hurricanes last Thursday in the second round of state championship playoffs.

War Eagles split with Laney, Westside

The Putnam County baseball team (10-12, 8-3 Region 4-AA) split games with region opponents Laney and Westside (Augusta) last week. After those games, the War Eagles entered the week third in the league standings.

Gators resume play with three wins

After a week off for spring break, the Gatewood baseball team (12-5, 5-1) resumed its season on the road last week with three straight non-conference wins.

Don’t know if you noticed that almost half the field at the Masters last week – at least 30 – were “foreigners.” That would include past champions such as Jose Maria Olazabal and Gary Player, as well as former Bulldog golfer Sepp Straka, a native of Austria.

War Eagles rely on seniors to win first-round thriller

No. 8-ranked Putnam County boys’ soccer hadn’t been challenged much this season until Friday night at home on Al Reaves Field when it faced Toombs County in the first round of Class AA state playoffs.
