Pressley: Summertime in the Peach State

Well, it was slow starting, we had a cool spring, a lot of rain, and a lot of wind but it is now summertime. I’m a little sunburnt already. I’m tired from late nights on the lakes and I’m a little sore from wakes. So yes, it’s summer.

Putnam T&F finishes 2023 season

In April, the Putnam County girls and boys track teams competed in the Region 4-AA meet at Glenn Hills, where they both placed second.

Putnam A’s earn rec baseball championship

Putnam County Recreation hosts numerous sports for all ages, with youth baseball among its most popular. Most recently, the 11- and 12-year-olds of the Putnam A’s were crowned local champions on May 23 under the guidance of coaches Matt Miller and Stephen Scouten.

This is a flashback to the times of Fred Barber, Georgia’s classic fullback of yesteryear, one who could have originated the time-honored football term: “Hardnosed.” A native of Bainbridge, Barber grew up with equal helpings of emotional capital for the outdoors and Friday Night Lights.

Nelson signs T&F scholarship with Thomas University

Putnam County senior Jermaine Nelson was born and raised in Jamaica but moved to the United States in 2017 and ended up in Eatonton. Now, just a few years later, Nelson is leaving with a high school diploma and a college scholarship to run track at South Georgia’s Thomas University.

Harvin, War Eagles prepare for spring game

Newly hired Putnam County football coach Joel Harvin literally hit the ground running on Feb. 17, when he and his family arrived in Eatonton. As the job transition began, the former Early County head coach began meeting with current coaches and players to get settled in at PCHS.

Soccer players commit to GMC JC

Georgia Military College (GMC) recently announced that four GMC Preparatory School soccer team members – Colby Avery, Levi Ward, Emma Evans and Ryley Taylor – have committed to continuing their athletic and academic careers at GMC at the junior college level.
