Gators working through T&F schedule

The Gatewood Gators boys and girls track-and-field season began Feb. 8, when the Gators played host to Piedmont Academy, John Hancock Academy and Twiggs Academy.

Gators run out of gas in Final Four

Central Fellowship Christian ended Gatewood’s season last week in the GIAA Class AA semifinals. The Lancers upended the Gators 83-55 last Thursday at Mercer University’s Hawkins Arena. “It was a great season,” Gatewood boys basketball head coach Don Keiser said.

War Eagles begin region play by blanking Butler

After losing to Athens Academy 12-1 last Monday, Putnam County baseball bounced back with a dominant performance over Butler in its Region 4-AA opener the following day. The War Eagles defeated the Bulldogs 21-0 on their home field in Eatonton on Tuesday, Feb. 30.

Three War Eagles earn All-Region honors

The Putnam County boys basketball team recently had three players earn All-Region 4-AA honors. War Eagle senior Eren Banks and junior Landon Bonner were named to the Region 4-AA First Team. Meanwhile, senior Keyni Crawford was named to the Region 4-AA Second Team.

Gators pick up two wins, lose a close one

The Gatewood Gators were able to capture their first win of the baseball season on Feb. 27 against Stratford Academy in a 5-1 victory. However, they came up just short against Pinewood Christian in a 9-8 loss the next day.

Young Lady Eagles get a feel for winning

Putnam County’s Lady Eagles faced a short-handed Laney team in tennis on Feb. 28, leading to forfeit points in what turned out to be a rout. The Lady Eagles needed only one match to win due to the forfeit but did more than that, winning 5-0 overall.
