Deannexation request runs up against city resistance

Eatonton City Council’s scheduled July 15 meeting was dominated by a presentation from Ted Baggett of The Baggett Consulting Agency about de-annexation applications submitted in May and July last year by eight local landholders regarding ten parcels of land currently within city limits.

Eatonton City Council held its first of two regularly scheduled monthly meetings on June 4.
Following the May 7 city council meeting, Eatonton Mayor John Reid posed with a symbolic $326,821 check from the U.S. Dept. of Transportation as part of its Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization grant program, intended to help cities and municipalities replace aging and deteriorating natural gas delivery systems. City recognizes century citizen; approves cellular subscription

Eatonton City Council met Monday night and the first order of business was a proclamation recognizing the 100th birthday of resident Verlia Mae Lockhart, who walked to and from the meeting, leaving with a couple of family members shortly after she received honors from Eatonton Mayor John Reid.
