Man sitting in road killed by car

A 64-year-old man died last night after being hit by a car, according to Eatonton Police Chief Howell Cardwell.Larry Russell Wight, of Martin, Georgia, was sitting in the road on the U.S. 441 Hwy. Eatonton Bypass around midnight when a car struck him.

UPDATE: Teargas ends Sparta Hwy. standoff peacefully

A standoff between law enforcement authorities and a wanted man lasted about two hours Thursday, July 11, on the 200 block of Sparta Highway in Eatonton. The man, identified as 26-year-old Tommy Lee Kell, had barricaded himself in the attic of his house and threatened a shoot-out with the officers.

Chase, manhunt end with two suspects captured

Car crashes into tree, catches fire

A car filled with seven people crashed into a tree recently, and miraculously, no one was injured, Eatonton Police Chief Howell Cardwell said.

Relentless work by EPD nabs Dr. Pepper burglar

Authorities say a man wearing a mop on his head broke into a store during the night and stole cash from the cash register. Because he was successful, the man reportedly returned to the same store several days later but succeeded in stealing only a Dr. Pepper.

Gusty winds pummel Putnam last week

High winds wreaked havoc in Putnam County last week, causing significant damage, man hours, and inconvenience. Local authorities and electric companies reported downed trees that caused power, cell phone, and internet outages, as well as several damaged vehicles on Thursday and Friday.

Pound of meth pulled from Eatonton’s streets

Once again, the Eatonton Police Department and Putnam County Sheriff’s Office combined forces to get drugs off the streets of Eatonton and Putnam County. This time, it was more than a pound of methamphetamine.

Police investigate Eatonton shooting

A barrage of bullets fired at a residence in Eatonton last weekend has authorities searching for the shooters. Eatonton Police Chief Howell Cardwell said he and officers responded to a 911 call about gunshots around 9:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29 on the 100 block of Hudson Road.
