Alice Walker’s dedication to voter rights began in Putnam County.The Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Color Purple recalls a time as a young girl when she and her father walked to a Putnam County polling place — a tiny, white-owned store “in the middle of nowhere.

‘The Color Purple’ continues to entrance audiences

A special, one-day encore presentation of the recently presented musical “The Color Purple,” based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Eatonton native Alice Walker, drew another sold-out crowd to The Plaza Arts Center on Sunday.

Eatonton-Putnam County Library features Alice Walker mini museum

The Eatonton-Putnam County Library now features a mini-museum honoring Alice Tallulah-Kate Walker, the first Black woman to win a Pulitzer for literature. Alice Walker is famous for her novel, The Color Purple, which was made into a critically acclaimed movie and Broadway musical.
