HFHP hosts ‘Building Hope’ gala in Eatonton

Habitat for Humanity of Putnam County (HFHP) celebrated a landmark event last Thursday with its 2nd annual Building Hope Gala at Barrel 118 in downtown Eatonton.

HFHP raised more than $100,000 through generous sponsors and a lively “Building the House of Hope” fundraiser that united the entire room in support of local families.

The gala drew more than 150 attendees who came together to champion safe, stable, and affordable housing in Putnam County.

Among the signature moments of the evening was an inspiring keynote address from Justice Verda Colvin of the Georgia Supreme Court. Colvin’s powerful message on service, resilience, and the life-changing impact of homeownership resonated deeply with guests.

Her remarks underscored the urgent need for community-driven efforts to support affordable housing statewide.

Guests also were treated to a dynamic, hands-on “House of Hope” experience led by Dr. Genie Snyder Chamberlain, the evening’s “Building Contractor,” who guided the audience through a symbolic home build on stage. The interactive demonstration sparked enthusiastic participation and helped drive fundraising well past $100,000.

Other notable attendees included President Cathy Cox of Georgia College & State University, whose students, alumni, and emeritus faculty also turned out in strong support, and Georgia State Representative Dale Washburn, reflecting the widespread regional commitment to addressing housing needs and strengthening local communities.

HFHP Executive Director Murali Thirumal expressed heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support.

“This gala once again showed what makes Putnam County truly special,” Thirumal stated. “Every dollar raised stays right here at home, helping local families build strength, stability, and opportunity through affordable homeownership.”

Eatonton-Putnam Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Robbie King served as emcee for the event and echoed those sentiments, noting the evening’s success highlighted the generosity and unity of the Lake Country community. He also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among civic leaders, donors, and volunteers to expand housing opportunities for families across the region.

Funds raised through the gala will directly support the construction of new Habitat homes — including Habitat Home No. 29, now underway — and ongoing planning for Carter Crossing, Habitat Putnam’s planned 30-acre neighborhood near Lake Sinclair and the largest development in the affiliate’s history.

The financial support will also help sustain homeowner education programs and critical repair efforts for existing homes in Putnam County.

As the giving season approaches, Habitat for Humanity of Putnam County invites community members to continue this momentum.

Tax-deductible gifts made by Dec. 31 can be contributed online at putnamcountyhabitat.org or mailed to P.O. Box 4056, Eatonton, GA 31024.
