Doherty declares candidacy for 10th District

Lexy Doherty, a lifelong working-class Georgian and community advocate, has officially launched her 2026 campaign for Georgia’s 10th Congressional District.

The announcement said she plans to bring “a bold platform focused on job creation, affordable housing, and economic justice to one of the state’s most critical battlegrounds.”

Doherty ran against incumbent District 10 Congressman Mike Collins last year, with a campaign that raised more than any Democratic candidate for the seat in nearly two decades, second only to the most recent Democratic incumbent for District 10.

In a new campaign video, Doherty draws a sharp contrast between her real-life experience and Collins, whom she criticizes for spending more time entertaining Elon Musk and chasing social media clout than delivering for local working families.

“My Congressman is one of Elon Musk’s personal favorites,” Doherty says in the video, highlighting a photo of the incumbent proudly displaying a gag gift from Musk on his desk. “They treat our lives like a joke,” she adds. “It’s time we send someone to Washington who actually lives like us.”

Doherty’s campaign will emphasize her firsthand understanding of working-class struggles. Raised in her mother’s small business, Doherty was helping run the store by a young age, until the 2008 recession shuttered it. Since then, Doherty has worked in mines, waited tables, mucked horse stalls, and now fights to lower utility bills for Georgia families.

Her legislative priorities include raising the minimum wage for the first time in 20 years, rolling back tariffs that hurt Georgia farmers, defending Medicare and Social Security, investing in affordable housing, and cutting taxes for lower- and middle-income families.

“Everyone knows we need change,” Doherty said. “But it’s only going to happen if we send real working people to Washington, not politicians who treat public service like a popularity contest.”
