Osprey nest fire causes temporary power outage

Residents in northeastern Putnam County were briefly without power Saturday morning when an osprey nest caught fire atop a Tri-County EMC utility pole. Putnam County Fire Chief Tommy McClain said the call came in around 6:15 a.m. July 9, and two firefighters responded.

Eatonton man acquitted by Hancock jury for shooting

An Eatonton man who was arrested for shooting two people at a Labor Day party in Sparta in 2019 was acquitted by a Hancock County jury recently. Darius J. Reaves was 18 at the time of the incident and his arrest.

The events of May 24, at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, once more brought a horrific reminder of the ongoing threat of school shootings in America. Thirtyseven people were shot that day. Twenty-one were killed, with 19 of them students just 9- to 11-years old.
