Local firefighters learn auto extrication procedures

On Oct. 26-27, the Putnam County Fire Department hosted Crash Victim Extrication 1, a two-day training course delivered by the Georgia Fire Academy. The comprehensive 16-hour course focused on training fire personnel to respond effectively to motor vehicle crashes involving trapped motorists.

The Eatonton Fire Department hopes to provide at least 250 kids who live within Eatonton city limits with Christmas presents from the department’s 15th annual Fireman Santa’s Sleigh campaign.

Budget, paving dominates Putnam board meeting

The Putnam County Board of Commissioners held its regularly scheduled meeting last Friday morning, with reconciliation of the 2024 budget taking center stage. Most significantly, the budget was balanced without drawing on the fund balance.

SUV stolen in Putnam recovered in N.C.

An Eatonton man’s SUV was stolen at a home he visited in Putnam County in September. The investigation that ensued seemed to follow twists and turns throughout the South before an arrest was made, and the accused is now in jail at Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

Death at the Asylum honors lives and progression of mental health

Seeking Asylum debuted a new mini-exhibit in its “Fast Fading, A History of Central State Hospital” exhibit on Oct. 26. Fast Fading is the first exhibit to be housed in the former CSH train depot, which is being renovated by Georgia’s Old Capital Heritage Center at The Depot into a cultural museum.
