A little missed footing in his vehicle resulted in a show-stopping entrance for a Winder man.
William Hearn was pulling up in his pickup to the Jet 44 a few minutes after 4 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4. But instead of parking his Ford Ranger FX4, the 67-year-old Hearn drove it through the front doors of the convenience store, shattering glass and demolishing displays and shelves.
“He said he tried to hit the brakes and missed and hit the gas (pedal), which caused him to accelerate through the doors,” Eatonton Police Chief Howell Cardwell explained. “The store was open, but luckily no one was injured.”
Cardwell said Wednesday morning that the Jet #44, located at the intersection of Gray Road and U.S. Hwy. 441, was closed for business until repairs could be made.
No charges are being filed against Hearn, he said.
