In the quest to get the membership number back up to the regular five, the Putnam County Board of Education and School Superintendent Eric Arena have played a waiting game since the middle of May with one particular state agency. A vision for moving forward, which included a name change for the Eatonton Putnam Tourism Arts Heritage Partnership and one of its genesis, was the topic of conversation at a June 21 meeting. There were such a large number of EPTAHP directors, local leaders and visitors in attendance at the community’s think tank partnership that the room was barely large enough to hold the crowd. As the Partnership grows with newly elected board members, advisors plan to look at a rebranding concept, focusing on the purpose of the group and goals to optimize the heritage of Eatonton and Putnam County as well as open the door to new and productive endeavors for the community.

The annexation won the stamp of approval of voters of Eatonton and residents of the area in question in a special election held in Eatonton on Tuesday, June 13. The measure passed overwhelmingly, but only 146 voters went to the polls to voice their opinion.

All places have now been filled on the Eatonton school faculty and things are shaping up for the opening of school in September. Mr. Ralph Pitts of Atlanta, a graduate of the University of Georgia in 1922, has been elected principal of the High School, teaching mathematics and assisting in the coaching of athletics in the fall. Mr. Pitts was the captain of the Georgia track team in 1921-22 and took part in all forms of athletics while in college.
