A 20-year-old Eatonton man is in critical condition after crashing on an ATV at 6:50 p.m. Saturday. Authorities say he was not wearing a helmet.
Lyntravious Antowain Farley was driving an ATV on Loblolly Drive Saturday evening, according to Eatonton Police Chief Howell Cardwell. Witnesses told police officers that Farley had been driving erratically on the roadway when he came upon another vehicle traveling along the road. Farley swerved to miss the vehicle, and in doing so, reportedly lost control of the ATV, went off the road, was thrown off the vehicle and landed on his head.
Putnam County EMS was called, and emergency personnel took Farley in an ambulance to the parking lot of Ingles grocery store, from where he was taken by medical helicopter to the trauma center at Atrium Health Navicent Medical Center in Macon.
Cardwell said Farley was still listed in critical condition Sunday morning.
The Eatonton Messenger received messages concerning "a lot of police cars" at Ingles on Saturday night. Cardwell explained that law enforcement and fire fighters are always on hand for every medical helicopter landing to ensure safety of all involved.
