The Putnam County High School cross country team participated in its first official meet of the season on Aug. 25 in Augusta. Two members of the PCHS girls’ team placed in the top 10.
In her first high school competition, freshman Alyssa Pennington exceeded exceptions as she finished second with a time of 25 minutes, 24 seconds. She was followed by Lily Frisch in eighth place at 28 minutes, 47 seconds.
Head coach Joe Hutsell said he was impressed by the Putnam girls placing three runners in the top 20 after Jade Mullis ran 33 minutes, 31 seconds to finish 18th.
In the boys’ competition, Putnam County junior Cristain Hernandez placed seventh after a run of 22 minutes, 7 seconds.
Luke Armistead placed 20th, with a time of 24 minutes, 2 seconds and Jonquail Coats placed 53rd after his 26-minutes, 40 seconds run.
Hutsell said the entire Putnam cross country team performed well and he is particularly encouraged by the positive streak for his Lady Eagle runners. He looks forward to seeing even more positive results in the coming season.
