Putnam County’s Rashod Daniel has been named a preseason all-state selection for Class AA by RecruitGeorgia. com, a site that covers high school sports in Georgia and helps its players get exposure.
Daniel, who plays both ways for the War Eagles, was selected as a linebacker on Class AA’s defense.
Daniel told The Eatonton Messenger on Tuesday that he’s excited to have earned the honor.
“I’m so thankful to make the preseason all-state team,” Daniel said. “It’s been a goal of mine for the past two years. I’m thankful to my teammates and coaches for helping me accomplish this dream.”
The 5-foot-9, 190-pounder played a significant role in Putnam County’s defense last year. He racked a team’s second-best 56 tackles, two sacks, seven quarterback pressures, and two fumble recoveries.
Daniel also was the team’s second-leading rusher with 573 yards on 87 attempts (6.6 yards per carry). He averaged 47.8 yards per game in a loaded War Eagle backfield and also scored six TDs.
According to On3.com, Daniel has an offer extended to him from Ole Miss. He has not been rated by the recruiting service, though. Recently, the junior War Eagle tweeted that he will attend App State’s season opener against Gardner-Webb in Boone, N.C., on Saturday, Sept. 2.
Daniel said this week that he doesn’t want to focus on his recruitment but rather help lead his team to victory. He admitted that he has high expectations for the War Eagles heading into his junior year.
“My expectations for this year are really to get better on the offensive side of the ball and better my craft on defense,” Daniel said. “As far as team goals go, I want to be a better leader on the field and off and push my team to be the best we can be. And of course, I want to win championships.”
Daniel and the War Eagles will open up their season next Friday, Aug. 25 against Baldwin in Milledgeville.
