School system makes statement after Barrow County shooting

In response to a tragic incident in a Barrow County high school today, Putnam County Charter School System officials released a statement on its social media page reaffirming the school system’s commitment to keeping students and staff safe.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and are actively communicating with our local law enforcement. We are maintaining a normal school schedule for all our campuses with heightened awareness,” the statement reveals.

PCCSS School System Safety Director Ken Vance, Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills, and Eatonton Police Chief Howell Cardwell met today and are in communication with school system officials but do not expect any changes in normal day-to-day school activities.

“It is my intention to consult with (Barrow County Sheriff) Jud Smith and other authorities at the appropriate time and see if we can learn anything from their incident that may be beneficial for us to apply to our county and school system,” Sills said.
