Gatewood qualifies 14 for state track meet

The Gatewood boys track team didn’t win the Region 4-AA meet held at the school April 13 as it has in six of the last nine years, but the enough athletes qualified for the defending state champions to have a chance at winning the state meet this weekend.

Putnam girls win first-round thriller

A soccer match does not get any more intense and can’t be any closer than the hard fought first round matchup between Putnam County and Bacon County on April 14, but the Lady War Eagles found a way to win despite a determined Bacon County side.

Oglethorpe County sweeps War Eagles

Oglethorpe County (14-10, 8-2) swept Putnam County (14-7, 7-3) in a two-game series on the diamond last week.
The Patriots defeated the War Eagles 9-3 on Tuesday, April 12 behind a strong pitching effort from junior Blane McFarland.

Putnam boys fall to Vidalia in first round

Putnam County’s soccer season came to an abrupt and disappointing conclusion on April 15 at home with a 2-1 double overtime loss to Vidalia, the No. 4 seed from Region 2-AA. Jonathan Reid provided the only goal for Putnam.

Gatewood girls will be represented in state track meet

The Gatewood girls didn’t fare quite as well as the boys in the Region 4-AA track meet, but five members of the team qualified for the state meet. Two relay teams qualified for the state tournament in as well as three athletes in four events.
