Gators face Brentwood in doubleheader

The Gatewood Gators had a short but successful week last week facing region rival Brentwood in a Friday doubleheader in Sandersville. The Gators swept the Eagles two games to none by a score of 4-3 in game one and 13-0 in game two.

War Eagles’ track-and-field takes new approach

So far this season, Putnam County’s track-and-field teams have excelled by taking a new approach. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams are competing hard for first-year coach Gary Waller, who is trying to train athletes to “get better” each week.

Putnam County baseball split with Thomson, winning 6-1 at home on March 25 and losing 12-2 four days later on the road.The two-game series with the Bulldogs couldn’t have been more lopsided, according to War Eagles head coach Mike Phiel.

Putnam tennis teams ace region tourney

Putnam County’s tennis teams recently participated in the Region 4-AA tournament and finished well. The Lady War Eagles captured the region championship and the War Eagles finished in second place.

Gators continue winning ways

Gatewood went undefeated again last week versus George Walton Academy (GWA) and swept Westminster Christian (WCA) in a two-game series.The Gators opened their week at home in Eatonton on March 18 against George Walton in what turned out to be a high-scoring ball game.

War Eagles' baseball spank Spartans

Putnam County baseball was back on the diamond last Wednesday and picked up two convincing region wins. The War Eagles took the doubleheader at home against Glenn Hills, spanking the Spartans 21-2 and 19-4.
