Gatewood T&F places well at home meet

Gatewood’s track-and-field teams hosted a meet last Wednesday in Eatonton. The Gatewood boys’ team placed first overall with 125 points, defeating rivals Brentwood and Trinity Christian, which both tied for second place with 102 points. Skipstone Academy finished third, with Twiggs Academy fourth.

War Eagles riding hot streak

Putnam County soccer is on a mission, entering this week riding a hot streak of nine straight wins.The War Eagles are ranked No. 10 in the Georgia High School Association’s Class AA, per Scorbord.com. However, head coach Michael Taylor doesn’t care about the ranking right now.

Gatewood’s baseball team scored an impressive 11-2 victory over region rival Piedmont last Tuesday, followed by a 5-2 win at home on Thursday over Vidalia Heritage.

War Eagles ‘ambush’ Patriots

Putnam County blanked Westside-Augusta 5-0 on March 12 for a big region win at home in Eatonton.The War Eagles scored five runs in the bottom half of the first inning and got seven solid innings from Hunter Holder on the mound to improve to 4-9 overall and a 3-0 mark in region play this year.

Lady War Eagles soccer finding its footing

After a rough 0-3 start to the season, the Putnam County girls’ soccer team has been on a roll as of late. The Lady War Eagles have won six of their last seven, including five straight heading into this week.

War Eagles rout Josey on diamond

The bats came alive for Putnam County last week in an easy rout of region opponent Josey High.The War Eagles got a solid performance on March 8 from Tanner Lukens at the plate. The junior went 3-for-4 with a team-high three hits, two RBIs, and a pair of runs scored in an 11-1 win.

Gatewood bounced back with a 10-0 win last Thursday in Perry, where they faced the Westfield Hornets in their second meeting of the season.The Gators started strong with a pair of one-out base hits from Hunter and Ames Johnson.
