Georgia duck season opens Saturday

Waterfowl hunters are ready to head to their favorite wetland location for the Georgia duck hunting season when it opens statewide on Nov. 18, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD). Duck season dates are Nov. 18-26 and Dec. 9 to Jan. 28.

War Eagles win close contest with Washington County

Putnam County held off a late scare from Washington County, coming out on top 49-47 on Friday. With the win over the Golden Hawks (6-4, 3-4 Region 4-AA), who finished No. 4 entering the state playoffs this week, the War Eagles (6-4, 4-3) secured the No. 3 seed in the region standings.

Gatewood secures region title with ‘Whoopin’ Stick’ win

A dominating 42-14 win over region rival Brentwood returned the “Whoopin’ Stick” to Gatewood’s possession on Nov. 3 at Sammons Field in Eatonton. The victory also secured the number-one seed for the Gators in playoffs this year.

Top-ranked Georgia (9-0, 6-0 SEC) survived a late scare by No. 12 Missouri (7-2, 3-2) this past Saturday. The Bulldogs made plays when they needed to come out on top over the Tigers, 30-21.

Georgia, Ole Miss set to face off in top-10 matchup

No. 1 Georgia (9-0, 6-0 SEC) is set to host No. 12 Ole Miss (8-1, 6-1) this Saturday in Athens. The Bulldogs are currently one of the hottest teams in the nation, riding a 26-game winning streak. So, the Rebels will try to pull off an upset as they’re fighting for a spot in the four-team playoff.

Historic run for Lady War Eagles cross country

The Putnam County girls cross-country team recently wrapped up its best season in program history. The Lady War Eagles captured the first region championship in school history on Oct. 26. They did so by taking down defending Region 4-AA champion Laney, with six runners finishing in the top 10.
