Gatewood holds Briar Patch Brawl competition

Gatewood Schools hosted its sixth-annual Briar Patch Brawl cheerleading competition on Oct. 24 in the school’s gymnasium. Seven middle school teams and seven varsity teams competed inside while Morning Grind, Kona Ice, and Southern Dawgs Catering sold refreshments outside.

Gatewood doubles up on Piedmont

With heavy hearts, the Gatewood Gators visited Piedmont Academy in Monticello last Friday, where they won 36-18 in memory of Dawn Sinclair, who lost her long battle against cancer just two days earlier.

Lady Eagles close out 2023 softball season

Putnam County High School (PCHS) graduated all but two starters last spring, so this season turned out to be a rebuilding year as returning senior starters Lily Frisch and Sammantha Spisak took teammates under their wings through encouragement and led by example.

Red zone woes plague War Eagles in loss to Laney

Putnam County (5-4, 4-2 Region 4-AA) had plenty of chances to score inside the red zone this past Friday against Laney (6-2-1, 5-1), but the War Eagles couldn’t punch it in when it mattered most. The Wildcats also stepped up on defense when needed, leading to a 27-6 victory over Putnam County.

Big change coming for PCHS volleyball programs

The biggest change ahead for Putnam County High School (PCHS) volleyball will be replacing Francisco Aguirre, as he has stepped down as head varsity coach, sponsor of the boys’ volleyball club, and assisting with the JV girls’ squad. “I have been a head coach at Putnam for three years.

Georgia shifts focus to Mizzou’s high-powered offense

T Top-ranked Georgia is set to host a much-improved Missouri squad this Saturday at Sanford Stadium. The No. 15 Tigers (7-1 SEC, 5-0) are playing well at this point in the season and they’re hoping to come into Athens and knock off the two-time defending national champion Bulldogs (8-0, 5-0).

Top-ranked Bulldogs run away from Gators

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After trailing Florida early this past week, No. 1 Georgia turned up the heat quickly. The Gators led 7-3 after each team’s first drive in the first quarter, but the Bulldogs responded by scoring 36 unanswered points.

Putnam, WaCo battle for final two region spots before playoffs
